Ballet
While we specialize in classical ballet technique, we also offer other classes such as tap, jazz, character dance, and contemporary based on students ballet technique level...
Curricular ballet begins with Ballet I for our 7-year olds. Each year of study, new technical material is added to the curriculum. In this way, levels become technically more demanding and artistic development is nurtured. The curriculum is paced so in each level as students gain new material they are developing the muscular foundation to support themselves on pointe as well as arrive to the introductory pointe level at an appropriate age. As the students continue to develop and grow, level placement is based on ability and comprehension, rather than age.
While we specialize in classical ballet technique, we also offer other classes such as tap, jazz, character dance, and contemporary based on students ballet technique level, as well as physical and cognitive development. Fort Wayne Ballet is fortunate to have international faculty, who have both performing and academic professional backgrounds. For 36 weeks of the year, we teach over 92 hours of classes every week, with eight more weeks of classes offered in the summer.
**Young men participating in the program are on full scholarship and limited scholarships and work study programs are available for young ladies.

Open Ballet - Beginning...It’s never too late to learn.
If you’ve ever wanted to discover the joys and individual benefits of ballet, this class slowly and methodically teaches you the terminology, movement, and grace of this classical art. It is also a great way to reintroduce yourself to dance if you danced, “once upon a time.” If you are a teen who wants to learn, but feel you are beginning “too late,” this class allows you to explore ballet with students closer to your age.
Open Ballet
This class is excellent for many students. If you’ve recently graduated from high school and want to keep ballet in your life while pursuing other interests, this is a great way to do so. Or, if you’ve taken the Teen & Adult Beginning course a few times and want to learn more advanced coursework, explore this option.
Mommy & Me Dance
We know family’s lives are incredibly busy and it is often difficult for parents to find time to enrich their own lives if they have young children. Now, 3 & 4 year olds can take a Movement & Music class while mom takes Adult Ballet 1 in another studio. This is a great opportunity for parents of young children to expose their children to movement activity while they do something for themselves, too.
Note: A parent must enroll in dance class in order to enroll their 3 or 4 year old in the corresponding movement class. Children must be 3 by 8/1/10 in order to enroll. However, adults without children are welcome to enroll in this beginning ballet course.
Teen & Adult Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that seeks to build flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination without adding muscle bulk. In addition, Pilates® increases circulation and helps to sculpt the body and strengthen the body’s “core.” The goal of Pilates® is to unite your mind and body, which relieves stress and anxiety. People who do Pilates regularly feel they have better posture, are less prone to injury, and experience better overall health.
Transfer Student Placement
Students transfer to the Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet for various reasons. They may have recently moved to
the area or their current teacher may encourage them to continue their studies with us. Depending on the
number of years they have taken strictly ballet classes, they usually take a placement class where faculty observes them and then makes a recommendation. Placement classes are a great way to get to know the Academy and do not obligate a student to enroll in classes. If you are interested in arranging a placement class for your student, please contact the Academy Administrator at 260-484-9646. To receive more information about the Academy's educational opportunities, email Academy Administrator.
