Why Fort Wayne Ballet...
Discipline. Quality. Creativity. Professionalism. At Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet, we help to develop these defining qualities in children and adults — qualities that all ages need throughout life. Since its debut in 1957, Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet has purposefully created comprehensive and truly beneficial programs that allow dance students to experience dance on individual levels. Ours is not just another dance studio — it is a collaboration of passion and appreciation of dance, for dance.
For many Academy dancers, the studio is like a second home. Dancers come here to challenge themselves, to learn from others, and ultimately to indulge their dancer within. A dancer’s simplicity, elegance, and ease is the result of years of quality development and training within a structured dance program like Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet. Dance education at Fort Wayne Ballet is not just ballet, although it is the foundation to all dance forms. We offer every element of core dance education — jazz, tap, partnering, character, Labanotation, dance history and terminology, music theory, contemporary, and more. The exposure to all these dance forms allows Academy students to investigate, observe, and participate in the dance that interests them most. Here, the possibilities are endless, and Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet helps dancers explore their best options.
Students at Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet gain the insight and knowledge of dance professionals from all over the world. Some of these professionals perform alongside our students; some choreograph; and others come to teach and share their experience. Executive and Artistic Director Karen Gibbons-Brown and our guest teachers push each dancer to reach beyond their preconceived limits. Instruction of this caliber helps our dancers move to the next levels of dance, regardless of each dancer’s goals. Many students go on to participate in prestigious summer intensives and are placed in professional dance companies throughout the country. As a result, Academy of Fort Wayne Ballet continues to earn recognition as a premier dance studio for preparing dancers physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Dancer and choreographer David Ingram is a prime example. Mr. Ingram, currently with the North Carolina Dance Theatre, is a protégé of Fort Wayne Ballet; and he routinely returns to Fort Wayne to teach and to perform because he sees the value and trust that Academy of Fort Wayne dancers endorse and fulfill. Performing truly is a privilege at Fort Wayne Ballet — and we are fortunate that our Academy teaching and global presence continue to introduce Fort Wayne Ballet dancers and audiences to a greater stage of performance, often that exceed audience and critic expectations!
Dancers, families, teachers, and choreographers agree that Karen Gibbons-Brown has turned Fort Wayne Ballet into a wonderful, productive environment to train and nurture dancers. Her insight and vision for Academy Fort Wayne Ballet offers a quintessential look into the world of ballet for both the dancers and the community. Correct development, education, and inspiration allow everyone to enjoy dance. Ballet sweeps both the dancers and the audience to a wonderful world of imagination, love, grace, elegance, strength and happiness. We’re glad you’ve joined us!
